Day 8 (19 Jan) – the calm after the storm

Three guesses what happens when the sun comes up with no rain clouds in sight?
Three guesses what happens when the sun comes up with no rain clouds in sight?

What a stark contrast to the past few days! Imagine waking up on a horizontal boat as it bobbed over the waters on a windless day when last I remembered (before going to bed) was hanging onto dear life. Also any lack of wind isn’t good news for any racing yacht! especially one that started 24 hours behind the rest of the fleet.

Rather than slack and laze around, we took this calm opportunity to carry out some deck maintenance, “W.O.B.B.L.E.-d” the engine, bailed/cleared sea water out from various parts of the boat and settled other minor touch ups. It was basically a spring cleaning of sorts after a hard week of beating upwind.
Also….. with a strong sun out, it meant was a perfect time to do laundry! The thought of crispy dry undies and clothing is so enticing, we finally rid of the stinky and smelly clothes. A shout-out to my bed-buddy, apologies for the stink 😉

There tend to be a trade-off with every good occasion “Too Good To Be True“, a good strong sun above with no wind equate to a torturous sauna below deck, overwhelming humidity, the damp warm and stuffy air, sweating buckets each time we went under deck.

Laying in bed, I’ve come to realise that I do miss my family a lot. I don’t necessarily have to be around but the uncertainty of their well-being worries me. All my life they have been a pillar of support with love amidst my idiocy. I thank God for providing me with such a loving and caring family.
